About The Business
Ivernia Insurance is a specialist personal lines Managing General Agent operating across Motor, Home and Commercial Motor. The business partners closely with insurer capacity providers and operates under delegated authority, with a strong focus on underwriting discipline, pricing integrity and controlled growth.
Distribution is currently delivered through online brokers alongside a recently expanded panel of external broker partners. As the business scales, there is a clear need to professionalise and strengthen distribution management, ensuring growth is profitable, controlled and aligned with portfolio and capacity expectations.
The Opportunity
The Head of Distribution will drive sustainable volume growth across core personal lines products, while ensuring growth remains within agreed underwriting appetite, pricing frameworks and portfolio expectations.
The role is responsible for setting and executing a growth oriented distribution strategy, expanding and optimising broker relationships, and ensuring that scale is achieved in a controlled and repeatable way.
Profitability, pricing discipline and governance act as enablers and guardrails to growth, rather than constraints on commercial ambition.
This is a senior, hands on role within a lean MGA environment. The focus is on direct ownership, execution and decision making. The role works closely with the CEO and core functional leads and plays a critical role in delivering scale efficiently through distribution.
Key Responsibilities
Growth and Distribution Strategy
- Define and execute a distribution strategy focused on driving sustainable, profitable volume growth across priority lines and broker segments
- Set clear volume ambitions by channel and broker, aligned to underwriting appetite, pricing framework and capacity
- Drive growth at pace while ensuring pricing discipline and risk tolerance support sustainable profitability as scale is achieved
- Proactively identify opportunities to expand broker penetration, deepen productive relationships, and unlock high quality new sources of volume
- Manage growth dynamically by balancing volume momentum with portfolio mix, pricing signals and capacity expectations to sustain profitable growth over time
Broker Relationship Ownership
- Own the overall broker strategy and panel design by line of business
- Build strong, growth oriented partnerships with key brokers
- Set expectations for performance, behaviour, conduct and data quality
- Own decisions to deepen, reshape, constrain or exit broker relationships
- Act as the senior point of accountability for broker relationships internally and externally
Broker Performance Management
- Monitor broker performance against agreed KPIs and portfolio outcomes
- Use MI to identify emerging performance or conduct issues early
- Work with brokers to unlock additional volume where performance is below potential
- Lead remediation plans where broker performance deviates from expectations
- Coordinate with Underwriting and Pricing on targeted actions
- Ensure disciplined follow through on actions, timelines and outcomes
Distribution Governance and Control
- Own broker onboarding standards, approval processes and ongoing oversight
- Ensure distribution activity operates within agreed pricing, underwriting and capacity frameworks
- Apply governance in a proportionate way that supports speed, scale and execution
- Maintain clear governance, controls and review cadence for all broker partners
Hands on Execution and Delivery
- Personally drive key broker initiatives, negotiations and remediation actions
- Translate strategy into practical volume outcomes with measurable results
- Remain close to day to day distribution performance and emerging issues
Cross Functional Leadership
- Act as the primary interface between Distribution, Pricing, Underwriting and Operations to ensure distribution execution is aligned to agreed strategy and decisions
- Ensure distribution decisions are informed by pricing insight and underwriting intent
- Champion volume opportunities while ensuring risks are understood and managed
- Supports engagement with insurer capacity providers by ensuring broker behaviour, mix and economics remain aligned with agreed delegated authority and portfolio expectations
Decision Rights and Governance
- Owns decisions on broker engagement, commercial terms, remediation actions and exit
- Leads volume and growth decisions within agreed appetite and frameworks
- Escalates material conflicts between volume, pricing and underwriting intent through formal governance forums
- Does not own underwriting appetite, pricing adequacy or portfolio profitability decisions
Experience
Essential
- Significant experience (5+ years ) managing broker led personal lines distribution, within an MGA, insurer or broker environment
- CIP Qualification is a pre-requisite for this role
- Demonstrated track record of driving material volume growth in a controlled distribution environment
- Strong capability in broker performance management, including challenging and corrective action
- Experience operating within structured governance and control frameworks
- Commercial judgement with confidence to take clear decisions in ambiguous situations
- Comfortable operating in a senior, hands on role within a lean organisation
- Knowledge of the Irish personal lines market and regulatory context
Advantageous
- Exposure to online and digital broker distribution models
- Prior experience in an MGA environment
- Experience working closely with insurer capacity providers

Reporting Line and Key Interactions
The role reports directly to the CEO. The role is expected to resolve the majority of distribution matters directly with Underwriting and Pricing, escalating to the CEO only where strategic trade offs or capacity risk are involved.
